Light/Minimal Screen Locking application
by Thinker
Link: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-5688968.html#5688968
For those who wish to have their nix screen locked manually or automatically and dont want to install big/bloated screen saver applications here are 3 good very light and minimal solutions:
For X:
- xtrlock
Size of files: 7 kB
Homepage: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/x/xtrlock/
Description: A simplistic screen locking program for X
License: GPL-2
For TTY:
- vlock
Size of files: 53 kB
Homepage: http://cthulhu.c3d2.de/~toidinamai/vlock/vlock.html
Description: A console screen locker
License: GPL-2
And to make it work with a timer:
- xautolock
Size of files: 32 kB
Homepage: http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/Linux/X11/screensavers/
Description: An automatic X screen-locker/screen-saver.
License: GPL-2
Here goes an example:
$ xautolock -locker xtrlock -time 5
xautolock will tell ( locker) xtrlock to activate after 5 minutes idle
For help type:
$ xautolock -help
Adding it to your Window Manager like fluxbox startup :
$ echo >> .fluxbox/startupxautolock -locker xtrlock -time 5
Network Domain change
by Thinker
While freethinker.ws is a valid domain until 2011, there are plans to change all it's services to a new domain.
The reason behind this move has to do with the marketing use of the .ws domain around the web.
Freethinker Network Downtime
by Thinker
Recently freethinker.ws was offline for some time. The reason was due to faulty hardware and also its replacement as well as capacity upgrade. (another 1TB HD was added)
This are almost 100% at the moment, but some downtime minutes should be expected since things are being "fine tunned".(kernel compile reboots)
This is the first of 2 big downtimes to happen. The second one will be much later and it will happen to have the whole internal network changed and rebuilt.
So here is are new toys:

4 ethernet plugs (router box!)
oh and of course... 16 GB Ram also sound good .
Everything runs with gentoo linux and for those wanting to know about compatibility here are a couple links:

50 years of Marriage
by Thinker
Recently i was told that someone that i sort of know (man) celebrated 50 years of marriage.
This man deserves a statue ! Without a doubt he deserves a statue !
Why ? is simple...
Take a look at Nelson Mandela (anti-apartheid activist and former President of South Africa).
He was in jail for 30 years and soon as he got out; he filed for divorce
.
While this other guy did 50!
Thats 20 more !
any more doubts ?

Sabayon Linux
by Thinker
Link: http://www.sabayonlinux.org
For those that dont know; sabayon is a binary gentoo distro.
So here it is gentoo at is best as sabayon.
Possibly the best live cd out there.
Sabayon Linux or SabayonLinux, (formerly known as RR4 Linux/RR64 Linux), is a Gentoo-based Linux distribution created by Fabio Erculiani.
A couple years ago i tried it as RR64 and chated a bit with Fabio Erculiani.
My outstanding congrats for his work since RR4/RR64
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sabayonlinux
note:
Sabayon Linux differs from Gentoo in that instead of installing the entire system from source code, the initial install is made using packages which are pre-compiled and bundled with the source code. Sabayon Linux currently supports the x86 and x86-64 platforms.
Phpbb3 Mod security BB codes problem
by Thinker
Link: http://www.modsecurity.org
Once again modsecurity does messes it up.
This time with phpbb custom codes such as these: http://www.modphpbb3.com/viewforum.php?f=17
At the moment with mod_security 2.5.9 and phpbb 3.0.5 all BB custom codes posted on that page are able to be installed (loaded).
All, execept the google video code: http://www.modphpbb3.com/viewtopic.php?f=17&t=314
This one also fails: http://www.phpbb.com/community/viewtopic.php?f=46&t=579376&start=2100
The output of this problem is shown as:
Method Not Implemented
POST to /forum/adm/index.php not supported.
Solution:
Unload your mod security to confirm that the problem is caused by it.
Do not simply reload apache; restart it.
The configuration file here modsecurity regex rule is:
/etc/apache2/modules.d/mod_security/40_generic_attacks.conf
40_generic_attacks.conf
Rule ID: "950006"
Regex:
ModSecurity: Access denied with code 501 (phase 2). Pattern match "(?:\\b(?:(?:n(?:et(?:\\b\\W+?\\blocalgroup|\\.exe)|(?:map|c)\\.exe)|t(?:racer(?:oute|t)|elnet\\.exe|clsh8?|ftp)|(?:w(?:guest|sh)|rcmd|ftp)\\.exe|echo\\b\\W*?\\by+)\\b|c(?:md(?:(?:32)?\\.exe\\b|\\b\\W*?\\/c)|d(?:\\b\\W*?[\\\\/]|\\W*?\\.\\.)|hmod.{0,40}?\\+.{0,3}x))|[\\;\\|\\`]\\W*? ..." at ARGS:bbcode_tpl. [file "/etc/apache2/modules.d/mod_security/40_generic_attacks.conf"] [line "133"] [id "950006"] [msg "System Command Injection"] [data ";\\x22 id"] [severity "CRITICAL"] [tag "WEB_ATTACK/COMMAND_INJECTION"] [hostname "
note: there are other bb google video codes that also fail for the same reason
note: as i pubished this; mod security also blocked me again
Human stupidity vs planet
by Thinker
As i read and see quite a few news about the wild against humans, there is one thing that i keep on noticing. It is always "an attack" against mankind.
Well lets see... we "humans" (or we like to call ourselves that way due to some self important reason); go into the wild, invade the animal kingdom, hunt these creatures, kill them, keep them in cages for personal enjoyment, mess up their natural habitat and destroy their habitat; and in the END when some of them retaliate; we CALL IT an attack on US ?
Shark Attack (properly done by the shark who did what he is suppose to do by his natural right)
Of course the humanoid, also did what his stupidity told him to do.
Here is another video of a bright intelligent humanoid:
The list could on as i read about another "animal defense against" humanoid presence as a mother saves a son from a cougar attack.
And homo sapiens call this events "attacks" when these creatures are just defending themselves?

Year 2038 problem
by Thinker
Link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Year_2038_problem
Remember the Year 2000 problem ?
well.. there is a new one now ... the 2038 year one.
Here we go again.
This problem seems to affect 32 bit operating systems and i ask; if i am using 64 bit systems in 2009; who will be using 32 bit systems in 2038 ???
By then any intelligent brain will be using a 128 bit operating system and hopefully we will have quantum computing at home ![]()
The year 2038 problem (also known as Unix Millennium bug, or Y2K38 by analogy to the Y2K problem, known as the millennium bug) may cause some computer software to fail before or in the year 2038. The problem affects all software and systems that store system time as a signed 32-bit integer, and interpret this number as the number of seconds since 00:00:00 January 1, 1970.[1] The latest time that can be represented this way is 03:14:07 UTC on Tuesday, 19 January 2038. Times beyond this moment will "wrap around" and be stored internally as a negative number, which these systems will interpret as a date in 1901 rather than 2038. This will likely cause problems for users of these systems due to erroneous calculations.

3 reasons why an intelligent guy looses it all
by Thinker
I have been noting this for while now by continuous occurrence.
This example may help you to notice if your long time cool IT buddy got himself into trouble.
Ever wondered where that IT buddy of yours that you used to see online all the time went ? What happened to him ? Is he gone ?
What happened to that online buddy that was always there for an intelligent information keystroke with you ?
Well search no more.
There are 3 reasons why a guy who has a brain, suddenly looses it.
1: drugs
2: wrong people to hang out (bad company, gangs and so on)
and finally ... the third one: women.
And this set of the factors, says it all. Drugs, gangs, women.
If you have an online buddy or even an outings buddy that all of sudden is "gone", trust me ... its one of those 3 things for sure.
And when he comes back; you will notice that for a while he doesn't seem to know how things work anymore. You talk to him about something that he used to know with his eyes closed and he just went back no n00b state.
It's like they are still making decisions with their lower body parts
Around me ... they all confirm my suspicions in the end and yes... its always a girl.
As for me, i always inform the ladies that i use my upper head to think and make decisions.
Guys... learn something or check this
